Spot 5 – Rock Discovery

Introduction

Q: Where is this rock from?
A: This rock came from the volcano. About
165 million years to 140 million years ago, volcanos in Hong Kong were very active especially at the centre of New Territories. This rock is made from the volcanic ash and rock fragments.

Q: What is the name of this rock? A: Coarse ash crystal tuff.

Q: What is the special of this rock?
A: Please observe carefully, we can see some big and small rocks stick on the rock. It is because these rocks were erupted from volcanic centre with volcanic ash and rock fragments. After a long time, the rocks became the part of the rock and form this special feature.
