The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) sets up a green education and resource centre in Kowloon Park to promote greening and enhance public awareness in greening and environmental protection. It also provides a place for the public to participate in greening activities, helps them understand and experience the importance of greening and environmental protection.

Community Garden Programme

The LCSD launched the "Community Garden Programme" in February 2004 to set up planting plots at selected LCSD parks and venues across the territory. Under the guidance of qualified instructors, participants can learn how to grow ornamental plants, fruits and vegetables in parks or venues nearby and take home the harvest to share with others.

The scheme is meant to encourage the public to participate in greening activities at community level and to adopt greening activities as part of daily life. It also aims at arousing public awareness in greening and environmental protection through participating in gardening activities.

The 18-week programme will be held in the form of gardening course and planting practice. In addition to attending the gardening course every Saturday or Sunday, participants will each be allocated a small planting plot of about 2.25 m2 during the programme period to practise the planting techniques acquired from the gardening course. Each participant is allowed to bring along not more than four friends or relatives ("Subsidiary Members") for the gardening activities.

Hong Kong Flower Show

Since 2000, the LCSD has been holding the annual Hong Kong Flower Show at Victoria Park. The show is a highlight in the local horticultural calendar. It provides a good opportunity for hundreds of thousands of local citizens and plant lovers from all over the world to appreciate the beauty of flowers and share their experiences in horticulture.

During the show period, a rich diversity of educational and recreational activities were organised for the visitors, including student drawing competition, photo competition, plant exhibit competition, music and cultural performances, floral art demonstrations, workshops on greening activities, guided visits, recreational programmes, as well as parent-child fun games, etc.
